  1. *Only 375 patients with liver function tests are included in the analyses. PCS, physical component summary; MCS, mental component summary. Independent variables include stage of illness (chronic hepatitis B = 1, compensated cirrhosis = 2, decompensated cirrhosis = 3); sex (male = 1, female = 2); occupation (dummy variable); education attainment (no schooling and primary = 1, secondary = 2, tertiary = 3); marital status (married = 1, other marital status = 2); annual per capita household income (<5000 = 1, 5000–9999 = 2, ≥10000 = 3); currently taken anti-viral treatment (no = 1, yes = 2); and other quantitative variables (age, duration of illness, alanine aminotransferase, total bilirubin, and albumin). A variable is entered into the model if the significance level of its F value is less than 0.05 and is removed if greater than 0.1.
